Little Washington Winery

Little Washington Winery
Last Visit:
July 2017

Traversing a steep, bumpy, gravel road leads you to limited angled parking under shade trees near the tasting room. Little Washington Winery has upgraded their steps leading up a short hill to the rear of the converted home used as their tasting room. Here you will be greeted by a moderate sized tasting bar, comfortable seating, and a balcony with an awesome view of the surrounding farm lands. There is light fare available for purchase and, coupled with the view, gives the non-drinker and drinker alike an enjoyable experience.

The winery offers a wine "boot camp" where you will spend 2 1/2 hours enjoying wines paired with different foods. The boot camp is an education course for those who wish to know more about wine, wine pairing, etc. These are often sold out six weeks ahead, so plan accordingly. Aside from the boot camp, they also offer classes in pairings with cheese, chocolate, dessert, and holiday themes.

We recently attended a "wine taste off" in which fifteen wines were tasted and ranked by the participants. The reds were awesome! The results of the rankings are used to make future inclusion decisions for the Dirt Road Wine Club (see below).

Donna and friends had a lot of fun participating in one of their taste offs. Its an opportunity to taste wine, rate it, and have the winery use the results for their decision to include the wine in their wine club shipments.

Each visit to the tasting room is a new adventure! In addition to tasting the wines from owners Carl and Donna (not our Donna) you will also taste a variety from across the United States and from other parts of the world. The Dirt Road Wine Club is different than most wine clubs. It includes exceptional small-batch craft wines from what some might consider unlikely areas like Missouri, Colorado, or Idaho (to name a few that I would not have expected). Dirt Road Wine Club members participate in vetting "taste off" events and selected wines are available for tasting at the winery.
